Perampanel is een anti-epilepticum dat geïndiceerd is als adjuvante therapie voor partiële of gegeneraliseerde epilepsie bij patiënten ouder dan 12 jaar. Het is een selectieve, niet competitieve antagonist van de AMPA-receptor (AMPA = alfa-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionaat). Als substraat van CYP 3A4 zijn lagere serumspiegels mogelijk bij simultane inname van carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine en fenytoïne. Tevens bestaat er een grote interindividuele variatie in serumconcentratie en is de therapeutische range die men in de literatuur terugvindt, nog onder voorbehoud.
